Total Population of the Philippines and the growth rates.
Most of the population statistics were mere projections out of the actual data gathered from census conducted by the government.
These were the data from these surveys conducted every ten years. There were times when the intervals were five years only:
1960 27,087.685
1970 36,684,948
1975 42,070,660
1980 48,098,460
1990 60,703,206
1995 68,616,536
2000 76,504,077
2007 88,574,614 estimated
The population of the Philippines had indeed grown from 27 million in 1960 to 76 million in 2000. The statistis in 2007 was just an estimate.
To determine the actual annual growth rates, I have to compute them and the results are presented below.
Actual annual growth rates :*
1960- 1970 = 3.7 per cent
1970 -1975 = 2.7 per cent
1975- 1980 = 2,86 per cent
1980 - 1990= 2.71 per cent
1990-1995 = 2.23 per cent
1995-2000 - 2.03 per cent
* computed
The next census was scheduled this year 2010.
