BIOGRAPHY OF PRESIDENT CORAZON C. AQUINO

Corazon C. Aquino who is popularly known as g Cory Aquino was the eleventh president of the Republic of the Philippines and was the first woman president of the country as well as Asia. She was the widow of the late Senator Benigno Aquino whose assassination in 1983 triggered the political unrest which culminated in the bloodless revolution.

Childhood and Education

María Corazón "Cory" Cojuangco Aquino was born on January 25, 1933 in Tarlac in a rich Cojuangco clam. Her father was Jose Cojuangco while her mother was Demetria Sumulong. She was the fourth in the family of six siblings, namely; Pedro, Josephine Reyes, Teresita Lopa, Jose Jr., and Maria Paz Teopaco. She studied in St. Scholastica and Assumption Convent of Manila. She studied abroad in the Ravenhill Academy of Philadelphia and Notre Dame Convent School both in New York and the College of Mount Saint Vincent. She finished Bachelors of Arts major in French Language and minor in Mathematics in the year 1953.


Married Life

She was studying in law in FEU when she stopped to marry Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. in 1954.

They had five children, four daughters and a son. They are Ma. Elena A.Cruz, Aurora Corazon A. Abellada, Victoria Eliza A. Dee, Kristina A. Yap better known as Kris Aquino, the actress and TV host and Benigno Aquino III or Noynoy who was elected Senator of the Philippines.

She remained plain housewife while her husband Ninoy Aquino became a mayor at age 22 and governor of Tarlac. He became the youngest senator when elected in 1967.

When martial law was declared by President Ferdinand Marcos in September 1972, Ninoy Aquino was among those who were arrested and sentenced to death.

He was allowed together with the family to fly to Boston for health reason. The family stayed there for three years.

Cory Aquino was not with Ninoy Aquino when he returned and was assassinated in the Manila International Airport on August 21, 1983.

Cory Aquino returned to the Philippines to bury her husband with two million people in attendance.

Life as a President

Cory Aquino became active in the protests against Marcos. After a compromise was reached with the political party of Salvador Laurel, she was drafted to run in the snap presidential election when against Marcos.

Although Comelec declared President Ferdinand Marcos as the winner, the tally of Namfrel showed otherwise.

On February 22, 1986, Juan Ponce Enrile and Fidel Ramos severed their loyalties from the Marcos administration. People power were called to protect the two who were holed up in a military camp.

On February 25, 1986, President Corazon Aquino was sworn in as President of the Philippines at the Club Filipino while Marcos took his oath in the Malacanan Palace.

That night, Marcos family fled with the help of the US government to Hawaii.

Kahit nanalo si Marcos sa bilangan ng COMELEC, nagpapakita naman ng ibang bilang ang NAMFREL.

Nang Pebrero 22, 1986, inilunsad ang People Power matapos na humiwalay sina Juan Ponce Enrile at Fidel Ramos sa administrasyon ni Marcos.



Life as President
She received numerous awards during the first year of her administration; among this was the Woman of the Year of the Time Magazine.

She signed the Comprehensive Agrarian Reforn which mandated the distribution of land to farmers/tenants.

She was severely criticized when her family's landholdings were exempted because it was a corporate farm.

It was also during her administration when the Constitution in 1935 was replaced by the new Constution which was drawn by the Constitutional Convention and was ratified in a plebiscite.

Her governance was considered poltically unstable as coups after coups were made by the dissatisfied military people.

Nature calamities brought havoc to the country during her term. There was the strong earthquake in Baguio, the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo and the storm that sunk a ferry with hundreds pf people.

Cory Aquino endorsed Alfredo lim during the 1992 presidential election. He place fifth.

She became active in the protests against the Arroyo government. She was criticized when she apologized to ex-President Estrada for joining the People Pwer 2.

She was diagnosed with cancer in March 2008.

Kapanganakan at Pag-aaral


Si María Corazón "Cory" Cojuangco Aquino ay ipinanganak noong Enero 25, 1933 sa Tarlac sa mayamang pamilya ni Jose Cojuangco at Demetria Sumulong. Buhay May-Asawa

Nag-aaral siya ng Law sa FEU nang aiya ay huminto upang pakasal kay Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. noong 1954.

Sila ay nagkaroon ng limang anak. Sila ay sina Ma. Elena Cruz, Si Aurora Corazon Abellada, Victoria Eliza Dee, ang actress na si Kristina "Kris" Aquino-Yap at ang kaisa-isang anak na lalaki na si Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III who also was elected as Senator.

Siya ay nanatiling may-bahay habang ang kaniyang asawang si Ninoy Aquino ay naging alkalde sa edad na dalawampu't dalawa, naging gobernador ng Tarlac at Senador ng Pilipinas.

Nang ideklara ang martial law ni Ferdinand Marcos noong 1972, isa si Ninoy sa mga naaresto at nahatulan ng kamatayan.

Siya ay pinayagan, kasama ang kaniyang pamilya na lumipad sa Estados Unidos noong 1980, sa Boston kung saan sila ay nanirahan nang tatlong taon.

Nang pinatay si Ninoy Aquino nang bumalik siya na hindi kasama si Cory at ang mga anak, umuwi si Cory para pangunahan ang paglilibing sa asawa na dalawang miyong tao ang sumama.

Buhay sa Pulitika

Mula nang mamatay ang kaniyang asawa, naging aktibo si Cory sa mga demonstrasyon. Napagkasunduang ilaban siya kay Presidente Marcos nang pumayag itong tumawag ng snap election.

Kahit nanalo si Marcos sa bilangan ng COMELEC, nagpapakita naman ng ibang bilang ang NAMFREL.

Ang Pagiging Presidente
Sa unang taon ng kaniyang pamamahala, maraming awards siyang natanggap kasama ang Woman of the Year ng Time Magazine.

Pinirmahan niya ang Comprehensive Agrarian Reform na nag-uutos na ipmahagi ang mga lupain sa mga magsasaka maliban sa limang ektarya na maaring iwanan sa may-ari ng lupa. Isa ito sa mga naging kaso ng pagkawala ng pagtitiwala sa kaniya ng mga dating kapanalig ng hindi nila isali ang mahigit anim na libong ektarya na pagmamay-ari ng pamilang Cojuangco.

Sa kaniyang administrasyon din binago ang Constitution 1935 sa ginawang Constitutional Convention at plebisito na iaprubahan ang Bagong Saligang Batas.

Marami ring pag-aalsa ng militar ang nangyari sa kaniyang administrasyon na ikinasawi ng mga tao.

Sa kaniyang termino rin nangyari ang lindol, ang paglubog ng bapor at ang pagsabog ng Bulkang Pinatubo.

Pagkatapos ng Pagka Presidente

Inindorso niya si Alfredo Lim pagpangulo pero ito nanalo. Sumama rin siya sa EDSA 2 subali't humiwalay kaagad sa administrasyon at naging aktibo sa pagkontra kay Gloria Arroyo kasama ng dating si Erap Estrada at ang mga kontra partido.

Siya ay natuklasang may colon cancer noong Marso 2008.

Buwan ng Hulyo nang inihinto na ang mga paggamot sa kaniya at nanatili na siya sa ospital.

Elpidio Rivera Quirino was born on November 16, 1890 in Vigan Ilocos Sur. He was the sixth president of the Philippines.

His parents were Mariano Quirino and Gregoria Rivera who were both from Caoayan, Ilocos Sur. He attended Vigan High School but graduate in Manila High School in 1911 while working in the Bureau of Lands.

He studied law in the University of the Philippines and graduated in 1915. He passed the bar later that year. After practicing law, he run for congressman and was elected from 1919 to 1925. He was elected Senator from 1925 to 1931. Then he served as Secretary of Finance and Interior under the Commonwealth government.

His wife Alicia Syquia Quirino died in World War 2 with three of their five children.

After the war, he was elected Vice-President of the Republic of the Philippines with Manuel Roxas as the president.

When Manuel Roxas died of stroke, he assumed the presidency on April 17, 1948. The following year, he was elected as the President of the Philippines for a four year term. His daughter Vicki Quirino performed the First Lady's functions.

His administration was tainted by graft and corruption and faced a serious threat from the Hukblalahap, an anti-Japanese guerilla army which tried to overthrow the government.

He tried to run for reelection in 193 but lost to Ramon Magsaysay.

ELPIDIO QUIRINO-Talambuhay

Si ELPIDIO EIVERA QUIRINO ay ipinanganak noong Nobyembre, 16, 1890 sa Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Siya ay ikaanim na pangulo ng Pilipinas.

Ang mga magulang niya ay si Mariano Quirino at Gregoria Rivera na parehong taga Caoayan, Ilocos Sur. Siya ay nag-aral sa Vigan High School pero nagtapos siya sa Manila High School noong 1911 habang siya ay nagtatrabaho sa Bureau of Lands.



Nag-aral siya ng pagkadalubhasa sa Batas sa Pamantasan ng Pilipinas at nagtapos noong 1915.

Pumasok siya sa pulitika noong 1919 hanggang 1925 bilang congressman at bilang senador noong 1925 to 1931.

Naging Kalihim siya ng Pananalapi at Interior sa gobyernong Commonwealth ng Pilipinas.

Noong Ikalawang digmaan ng Pilipinas, namatay ang kaniyang asawang si Alicia Syquia Quirino at ang tatlo sa kanilang limang anak.

Inihalal siyang Bise-presidente pagkatapos ng giyera kung saan ang pangulo ay si Manuel Roxas.

Nang mamatay si Manuel Roxas sa atake sa puso, siya ay naging pangulo noong April 17, 1948.

Sa sumunod na taon siya ay inihalal bilang Pangulo para sa apat na taon. Ang kaniyang anak na si Vicki Quirino ang tumayo bilang unang Ginang.

Ang kaniyang administrasyon ay nabahiran ng mga kasong katiwalian at ang pakikilaban sa mga Hukbalahap.



Tumakbo ulit siya sa pagkapangulo noong 1953 pero tinalo siya ni Ramon Magsaysay.

MANUEL L. QUEZON-TALAMBUHAY

Si MANUEL L. QUEZON y MOLINA ay ang unang pangulo ng Commonwealth ng Pilipinas. Siya ay maituturing na ikalawang pangulo ng bansa pagkatapos ni Emilio Aguinaldo na ang pamamahal bilang pangulo ay hindi kinilala ng Estados Unidos at ng ibang bansa.

Si MANUEL LUIS QUEZON ay ipinanganak noong Agosto 19, 1878 sa Baler, Tayabas (Quezon). Ang kanyang ama ay si Lucio Quezon na taga Paco, Manila at si Maria Dolores Molina. Nag-aral siya ng pagpapadalubhasa sa Batas sa Pamantasan ng Sto. Tomas. Siya ay nakapasa bilang abugado noong 1903. Siya ay naging piskal sa kaniyang lalawigan at di lumaon siya ay nahalal bilang gobernador.

Noong 1907, siya ay tumakbo sa bandila ng Partido ng Nacionalista bilang kinatawan sa Asembliya mg Pilipinas . Siya ang naging lider ng mayorya (majority floor )leader dahil sa inani niyang malaking boto.

Pinangunahan niya ang unang delegasyon na nakapag-uwi ng TYDINGS-MCDUFFIE INDEPENDENCE LAW noong 1934.


Siya ay nahalal na Unang Pangulo ng Commonwealth ng Pilipinas . Ang kaniyang pagsisikap na makuha ang kalayaan ay nag resulta sa pagsulat ng Konstitusyon noong 1935.

Siya ay kasal kay Aurora Aragon at mayroon silang naging apat na anak. Sila ay sina María Aurora "Baby" Quezon (1919-1949), María Zeneida "Nini" Quezon-Avancena (1921-), Luisa Corazón Paz "Nenita" Quezon (1923-1923) and Manuel L. "Nonong" Quezon, Jr. (1926-1998). Ang kaniyang apo na si Manuel (Manolo) Quezon III ay isang magaling na manunulat.

Namatay si Manuel l. Quezon noong Agosto 1, 1944 sa Saranac Lake.

MANUEL L. QUEZON y Molina was the first president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. He is considered the second President of the Philippines, after Emilio Aguinaldo (whose administration did not receive international recognition at the time and is not considered the first president by the United States; (August 19, 1878 – August 1, 1944).

Manuel Luis Quezon was born on August 19, 1878 in Baler, Tayabas (now Quezon), to Lucio Quezon, a native of Paco, Manila and Maria Dolores Molina. He studied law at the University of Sto. Tomas and passed the bar examinations in 1903. He became the fiscal of his home province and was soon elected governor.In the 1907 election, he ran for the Philippine Assembly under the Nacionalista Party, won by a large majority, and became the majority floor leader.In 1909, he was elected Resident Commissioner to Washington D.C., a post he held until 1916. His most significant achievement was the passage of the Jones Act that provided for the grant of Philippine independence.He was elected senator in 1916 and eventually became Senate President. He headed the first Independence Mission to the U.S. Congress, and brought home the Tydings-McDuffie Independence Law in 1934.The “ Star of Baler “ shone as the First President of the Commonwealth after his brilliant performance as the First Senate President. He was steadfast in his vision to deliver the masses from the shackles of colonialism which intensified his efforts to secure independence for his country. Such vision culminated in the establishment of political stability within the framework of the 1935 Constitution, the formulation of policies to ensure the social well-being of the people, and the adjustment of the national economy to the challenges of independent nationhood. He was a dynamic Filipino leader and a true friend of the poor and the oppressed whom he loved and cared so well. Quezon is one of the most illustrious sons our country has ever produced.Quezon was married to Aurora Aragon and had four children. He died on August 1, 1944 in Saranac Lake, New York.
